What a year it has been! Once again, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming many wonderful people on board, gathering new experiences, and continuously working on Abuela to make your stay even more comfortable. Our motivation remains seeing that sparkle in your eyes after enjoying a relaxing, eventful time aboard our beloved Abuela.
Here are some updates for the upcoming season:
•Enhanced Cooling: We’ve not only acquired a new cooler with compressor technology that can even freeze, but we’ve also installed a practical cooling drawer in the salon. This ensures that your drinks and groceries stay nicely chilled – perfect for hot summer days on board.
•Culinary Upgrades: A hot air fryer is now available for baking crispy rolls in the morning or preparing tasty snacks in between meals.
•Atmospheric Lighting: The LED strip in the salon now works reliably without any “smart” gimmicks. We’ve also installed a new dimmable lamp in the dinette to create the perfect ambiance for cozy evenings. Another new, dimmable lamp in the salon is even portable – thanks to its built-in battery, you can easily take it out to the aft deck.
•More Comfort and Safety: Motion sensors in certain areas help you navigate the boat comfortably and safely at night, without needing to fumble for the light switch.
•Improved Power Supply: To better route the shore power cable, we’ve now installed shore power connectors on both the swim platform and the bow. This keeps the cable off the side decks. We’ve also added larger batteries to increase your independence at anchor, adjusting the onboard power storage to meet higher demands.
•Clean Anchor Chain: You can now connect a hose at the anchor windlass to rinse off the anchor chain as you pull it up, keeping both the deck and chain clean and well-maintained.
•Independent Water Supply: For those traveling outside the usual boating season, there’s no need to worry about fresh water. Thanks to a new filtration system, water can now be drawn directly from the river, filtered, and pumped into the tank.
•Better Internet: We’ve greatly improved connectivity: Starlink is now on board! This means you can enjoy a fast and stable internet connection, even in more remote areas.
Like last year, we have plenty of ideas to implement in the upcoming season. We always welcome your feedback—feel free to get in touch if you notice anything or have suggestions.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to expand our cruising proposals as much as I had hoped this year. I plan to include the Vecht, add tips for Zeeland, and share our experiences in Belgium, where there’s much more to discover beyond Ghent. I’m aiming to have everything updated before the start of the season. If you have any travel plans or questions in the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out.
